THE BRIGHT KNOWLEDGE
THE ROOTS OF CELTIC SHAMANISM
With Caitlín Matthews
Húsabakkaskóla, Svarfaðardal, Iceland
July 15th - 17th 2009
An Irish triad speaks of the ‘three candles that illumine every darkness: truth, nature, knowledge.' This shamanic course, for students whose journeying is firmly established, explores the roots of Celtic Shamanism through these three candles of truth, nature and knowledge. Together they create the glé fiosa or ‘the Bright Knowledge' by which we lead our lives.
The shamanic traditions of the Celtic peoples have been well researched by Caitlín who has translated texts and discovered ancestral shamanic skills, finding their practical and contemporary uses. These links to our ancestral wisdom can be gained by listening to the truth of our allies, the spirits of nature and the innate knowledge of the ancestral worlds, all of which enhance our learning.
Students will learn how to work with the auguries of nature, the bardic prophetic methods of the Three Illuminations, the nature of the soul and the healing of the Celtic soul song. We will also seek the wisdom of the land through a ritual of shamanic embodiment.
